The Granville Inn, a landmark and on the National Register of Historic Places, was built in the 1920s as a private estate by John S. Jones. Today the inn has 27 rooms, a restaurant, pub, and conference rooms. It is a beautiful building, a Jacobethan Revival manor. Part of the Inn was the gymnasium and classrooms for Granville Female College, closing in 1898. While on a visit to Granville visiting family, Greg and I stayed at the Inn. We conducted a mini-investigation one night with an employee, Arica and a few of her friends. We explored the lobby, attic/loft area, and basement. The loft contains a gathering room and a suite. The basement has several meeting rooms and the men’s restroom. The library, in the basement, was definitely the most active. The K2 meter flashed to red multiple times. It was especially active when Arica had it. Flashing to red means that there is something very close. We tried to debunk it by checking for high electricity fields in the walls or ceiling, but that wasn’t the case. If electric wires are the cause, the meter’s lights will hold steady. In this cases, the flickered, indicting a spiritual presence. The spirit seemed teasing, moving from place to place. Arica and her friends went from apprehension to excitement. It was exciting to be able to track the spirit so clearly! We asked the spirit/spirits, “How many are there?” and the answer was “Seven.” There were seven of us! We asked, “Are you a man? The answer was “Yes.” We do have a picture of a clear orb in the corner of the library where the K2 most commonly reacted. There is also an orb right beside Arica’s friend while we were in the loft. The ovilus also said several other relevant words. We had placed the Mel meter in the lobby. When we returned, the high reading was a 4.5! This was a very high reading when there was no electrical apparatus nearby! We did experience a few cold spots. We are glad to have had the opportunity to do the mini-investigation because it seems clear to us that there is paranormal activity at the Granville Inn. We think the spirit who seemed to like Erica might be a student from the Granville Female College, although we have no evidence of any student dying there. It just seemed playful. Sallie Jones, the builder’s daughter, may also be the spirit. From what we researched, she was a very colorful character. Arica was a good guest investigator! Thank you, Dena McKinley for the opportunity! Off The Trails Paranormal Investigations would welcome the chance to return!
